What is Google Now
Although Google Now vs Siri vs Cortana cover the same features, they have different approaches and their own priorities. To me, Google Now is like a real life PA. It keeps track of everything you are doing, where you are going and presents or informs you about the information before you actually need it.
For example, to open Whatsapp, you just say “Okay Google and say open WhatsApp. Your Whatsapp application will get open or if you have a flight then it will notify you about the travel time to the airport. Of course for the later, it depends on having the access to you Gmail, Google Calender and so on. In addition, Google Now can also help you get answers to web searches or map queries like “who is the president of America”. You can also control some of your phone features. What Google Now does is it delivers personal recommendations based on your search history and preferences. All-in-all, Google Now is all about easy access and simplicity.
What is Siri
Siri is marketed as a personal app by Apple. As opposed to Google Now, Siri spends most of its time in background. Siri makes more out of its voice control features. It finds phone numbers, displays photos, send an email and even post an update to Facebook or Twitter. One important thing to mention here is, Siri is only limited to iOS devices, whereas as Google Now is available across all platforms.
What is Cortana
With Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced Cortana to its desktop users. Cortana was initially described to be the best as it was said that it has taken its bits from both Google Now (advanced personalisation) and Siri (comprehensive voice control) and combining the features from both. With the arrival of Windows 10, Cortana is the most well-established personal assistant on desktops and laptops. This is because it tries to know as much as possible about you (that is what Google Now does 🙂 )and controls various features on your devices (Just like Siri).
Many factors should be taken into consideration for a right PDA. Microsoft’s Cortana and Google Now have a recognizable voice. Siri, on the other hand stands distinguished. Siri comes with customizable voices that allows you to choose a male or a female voice.
iPhone, iPad, iPod has a touch compatible home button for Siri.Simply hold down the button and the personal digital assistant will promptly ask for input. It is very appealing.
To enable Cortana you have to hold the search icon on the main screen even without unlocking the screen. you can also tap on the Cortana tile on the home page.
Google Now varies among Android. For most of them, it is activated by swioing up from the home screen. Another way to activate Google Now is to tap on Google Search app. This i an adequated solution but it can be different on each phone.
The interface of Cortana and Siri looks similar but Google Now has card interface, which more involved. When Cortana and Siri are activated, they present a plain screen asking you to speak a command. Google Now anticipates what you might want by a card layout.
Gathering Information- Speed and Accuracy:
I have asked the same questions to each of the personal digital assistant to measure the speed and accuracy. just have a look.
- “How tall is the Eiffel Tower?”
Cortana (5.6 seconds)
Siri (3.5 seconds)
Google Now (5.22 seconds)
Here, I would say that Cortana is a clear winner. This is because it skipped the Wikipedia and other extraneous information and directly jumped to the facts, which is the effiel tower’s height.
- Text message Rajesh ‘Hello.’
Siri (4.2 seconds)
Cortana (5 seconds)
Google Now (8.01 seconds)
I preferred the simplicity of Cortana’s texting setup because Siri’s message didn’t look like a normal iMessage or text. Google Now completed the task but took almost twice as long as Siri and Cortana.
- “Schedule an appointment with Harris for Tuesday at 9 a.m.”
Cortana (5.4 seconds)
Google Now (7.33 seconds)
Creating appointments was quick and to the point; it really just came down to timing on this one, as all three worked well.
Bottom Line- Google Now vs Siri vs Cortana
With PDA, All the giants Google, Microsoft and Apple do not want to feel like a cool feature but an integral part of their respective operating systems. But for the sake of conclusion, I preedict that, as of now, Cortana will have an edge over Google Now vs Siri vs Cortana.
