If you have made an upgrade to Windows 10, then you now have come to know that with Windows 10, Microsoft has replaced its default browser Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge. As compared to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge has a lighter design and comes with Cortana. Microsoft Edge has washed out everything we hated with Internet Explorer. But how does Microsoft Edge compares with Google’s most famous Chrome Web browser? Here I’ve made an attempt to compare web browsers Microsoft Edge vs Google Chrome.
1. Microsoft Edge Features:
Here are some of the points that will showcase the features of Microsoft Edge.
- Show/Hide favorite bar
- Start page settings
- Privacy settings
- Better readability options
Google Chrome has a handful of features such as “OK Google“, enhanced privacy settings, password, form management, proxy settings, HTTPS certificate management and more others.
Most of these features are not available in Microsoft Edge for a regular user and this is where Google Chrome wins.
2. Default Search Engine Settings:
Microsoft Edge does not have support for other search engines. It only supports the default search engine “BING” and this is the reason why it lags behind other browsers. At the same time, Google Chrome provides support for multiple search engines. It is also possible to customize search engines that come with browser toolbars.
Just go to Settings >> Look for Search >> Manage your preference for the search engine.
3. Extension/Plugin Support:
Even though Internet Explorer used to support plugins, as of now, Microsoft Edge does not support any extension or plugin. Maybe, Microsoft will add this support in the near future but if they don’t then it might be a HUGE problem for the users.
Google Chrome provides support for various extensions. These extensions will help you perform various tasks by ease. Some of the extensions I use are – Grammarly, Link Miner, Pinterest.
4. Where Microsoft Edge Excels?
Not all the time Google chrome wins, Microsoft Edge comes with some really cool features. Edge browser has a feature called Web Note. This Web Note option will help you create notes. It is also possible to create free hand drawings on any web page, take screenshots and many more. Here, Google Chrome has to take the help of extensions to perform these tasks. For a user, installing multiple add-ons will result in slow browsing experience. Nonetheless, Microsoft Edge does not have to depend on any third party extensions.
Another handy feature of Microsoft Edge is Read View. If you have used the Safari Browser then you may have come to notice that they have the COUCH VIEW or READ VIEW. The Read View feature resembles to this particular feature of Safari. The Read View mode eliminates all the third-party advertisements along with sidebar and footer. This will help you when you are reading a loooong article. This feature is not available in Google Chrome but you can get it via an extension.
5. Microsoft Edge vs Google Chrome-Web Browser Speed:
When it comes to browsing speed, it matters to lots of people. We’ve tested the both web browser Microsoft Edge vs Google Chrome for the speed. All tests were performed thrice and then average was taken.
The higher the score the better is the performance.
